Villanueva de la Concepción

More than five hundred residents participate in Villanueva de la Concepción's different sports and cultural schools. For the new 2009/2010 school year, the offer has been expanded to 20 municipal schools, and residents have responded positively to this initiative.

Among the schools having the most demand are those for body-building, aerobics and flamenco dancing, schools with practically all openings filled. However, it is the physical activities for adults and seniors that take the laurels. Not in vain, there are more than a hundred of residents enrolled in the different groups, more than half of them above 55. Of great importance in this area are the classes given to seniors by Pablo Lopez, for improving and maintaining the health of our town’s seniors.

As far as the little ones, this course has been extended to primary and secondary school students thanks to the cooperation from the Ciudad de Oscua Public School and Manuel Romero High School. In this way the town’s children receive free classes in football 7, football room, multisports, basketball and chess, among other sports.

Cultural Schools, on the other hand, carry out important work for the recovery of our traditional folklore in addition to offering a chance at exploring our artistic and creative tendencies.

Cultural schools:

School: Guitar

Location: Casa de la Cultura
Schedule: Every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Price: 18 euros per month, with minors under 16 years paying 10 euros monthly.
Learn to play the guitar or perfect your technique with the classes given by Joaquín Garcia Bermúdez.

School: Traditional Dance (verdiales)

Location: Nuevo Gimnasio Municipal (aerobics room)
Schedule: Every Sunday at noon
Price: 6 euros per quarter.
Manuel Bueno is in charge of teaching the students in an art as much ours as is dancing verdiales.

School: Playing Traditional Music (verdiales)

Location: Casa de la Cultura
Schedule: Every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Price: 6 euros per quarter.
Pans, tambourine, violin, guitar… choose an instrument and play verdiales under the tutelage of Francisco Reina.

School: Flamenco dancing

Location: Nuevo Gimnasio Municipal (aerobics room)
Schedule for children’s group 1: Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Schedule for advanced group Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

The municipal flamenco dancing school is one of the most successful. Its different groups have acted in numerous of the municipality’s celebrations, thus providing an excellent example of the fine work being done by instructor Carmen Camacho.

School: Salsa

Schedule: Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Price: 10 euros per month.
Salsa is fashionable, and Francisco Pozo’s classes prove it every Tuesday.

School: Band

Location: Covered Pavillion
Schedule: Monday and Thursday at 8:00 p.m.
Price: 10 euros per quarter.
With a heavy dosage of work and dreams, we have managed to create the Municipal Band led by Diego Carrasco.

Schools Sports:

School: Aerobics

Location: Nuevo Gimnasio Municipal (aerobics room) Schedule: Monday and Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Price: 15 euros per month. In order to get in shape to the rhythm of music. Juan José Moreno is in charge of this activity.

School: Body-building

Location: Nuevo Gimnasio Municipal (Body-building room).
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Price: 25 euros per month. In addition, new students have to pay a registration fee of 6 euros. One of the more fashionable schools. The body-building cult begins in the gymnasium under Juan Manuel Ponce.

School: Bowls (Petanca)

Location: Football field.
Schedule: Friday at 6:00 p.m.
Price: 2 euros per month.
A love for bowls has recently grown significantly in our town. Every Friday Pablo Lopez offers instruction to fans to perfect their technique.

School: Psychomotor skills

Location: Nuevo Gimnasio Municipal (aerobics room)
Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
Price: 4 euros per month. In addition, new students have to pay a registration fee of 6 euros.
Classes in psychomotor skills are an important aid for the proper development of children. Juan José is the person in charge of this school.

School: Sevillana

Location: Antiguo Gimnasio Municipal (City council)
Schedule: Monday at 19.30 p.m.
Price: 10 euros per month.
Sevillana classes have at last been incorporated into the municipal array. Carlos Mérida prepares his students to put what they learn in practice at summer fairs and celebrations.
